Sweet Potato Puree
A silky smooth sweet potato puree that makes the perfect first food for babies 4-6 months and older. Naturally sweet with no added sugar or salt, packed with beta-carotene and vitamin A for healthy development.
Ingredients
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- ½ cup water or breast milk
Method
- Peel sweet potatoes and cut into 1-inch cubes for even cooking.
- Place sweet potato cubes in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam until very tender and easily pierced with a fork.
- Transfer steamed sweet potatoes to a blender or food processor. Add water or breast milk a little at a time.
- Blend until completely smooth with no lumps, scraping down the sides as needed. Add more liquid for a thinner consistency.
- Let cool to a safe temperature before serving. Test on your wrist to ensure it is lukewarm.
- Spoon into ice cube trays for freezing individual portions, or store in airtight containers in the refrigerator.
Chef's note: NEVER add honey to baby food for children under 1 year due to botulism risk. No added salt or sugar needed. Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet and babies love them. Frozen portions keep for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
