Classic Cheeseburger
A juicy, perfectly seasoned beef patty topped with melted cheddar, crisp lettuce, and tangy pickles on a toasted brioche bun. This iconic American classic delivers the ultimate backyard cookout experience.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 brioche buns
- 4 leaves iceberg lettuce
- 1 tomato, sliced
- ¼ cup dill pickle slices
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
Method
- In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly wider than the buns, making a small indent in the center of each.
- Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over high heat. Cook patties for 4 minutes on the first side without pressing down.
- Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheddar on each. Cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place the brioche buns cut-side down on the grill to toast lightly.
- Assemble burgers: spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom bun, add lettuce, the cheesy patty, tomato slices, and pickles. Close with the top bun and serve immediately.
Chef's note: For a smash burger variation, use a flat-top griddle and press the patties thin with a spatula right after placing them down. Let the cheese melt by covering with a dome or aluminum foil for the last 30 seconds.
