Pea and Mint Puree

⏱ 10 min 🍽 Serves 3 📈 easy 🌍 British
Finished dish

A vibrant bright green puree of sweet peas and fresh mint that is naturally rich in iron and vitamin C. A refreshing flavor combination that babies 6 months and older tend to love.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add frozen peas and cook until very tender.
  2. Drain peas, reserving a few tablespoons of the cooking water.
  3. Transfer peas to a blender with fresh mint leaves and water or breast milk.
  4. Blend until completely smooth, adding more liquid as needed. For older babies, you can leave some texture.
  5. Push through a fine mesh sieve for the smoothest result, especially for younger babies, as pea skins can be tough.
  6. Cool to a safe temperature before serving.

Chef's note: NEVER add honey for babies under 1 year. No salt or sugar needed. Peas are a good source of plant-based iron. The mint adds a subtle freshness that many babies enjoy. Freeze portions in ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Pair with a vitamin C source to enhance iron absorption.
