Pea and Mint Puree
A vibrant bright green puree of sweet peas and fresh mint that is naturally rich in iron and vitamin C. A refreshing flavor combination that babies 6 months and older tend to love.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups frozen peas
- 3 fresh mint leaves
- 3 tbsp water or breast milk
Method
- Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add frozen peas and cook until very tender.
- Drain peas, reserving a few tablespoons of the cooking water.
- Transfer peas to a blender with fresh mint leaves and water or breast milk.
- Blend until completely smooth, adding more liquid as needed. For older babies, you can leave some texture.
- Push through a fine mesh sieve for the smoothest result, especially for younger babies, as pea skins can be tough.
- Cool to a safe temperature before serving.
Chef's note: NEVER add honey for babies under 1 year. No salt or sugar needed. Peas are a good source of plant-based iron. The mint adds a subtle freshness that many babies enjoy. Freeze portions in ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Pair with a vitamin C source to enhance iron absorption.
