Baby Porridge Fingers (Baby-Led Weaning, 6+ Months)
Soft, squishable oat fingers your baby can hold themselves — brilliant for baby-led weaning from 6 months. Just oats, milk and banana, baked into bars that hold together without crumbling. Safety note: always supervise finger foods, sit baby upright, and never add honey under 12 months.
Ingredients
- 100 g porridge oats
- 150 ml whole milk (or baby's usual milk)
- 1 ripe banana, mashed
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C fan and line a small baking tin with baking paper.
- Mix the oats, milk, mashed banana and cinnamon, if using, into a thick porridge.
- Press the mixture into the tin about 1.5 cm deep and bake until set and lightly golden.
- Cool completely, then cut into chunky fingers about the size of an adult finger — easy for little fists to grip.
- Serve soft, never crunchy. Check each finger squashes easily between your thumb and forefinger before offering it.
Chef's note: Suitable from 6 months for baby-led weaning. Always stay with your baby while they eat and make sure they are sitting upright. No sugar, no honey (never under 12 months) — ripe banana does all the sweetening. Freeze the fingers in a single layer for up to 3 months.
